Studies have found that methods like oral conscious sedation (which simply means it\u2019s taken as a pill) can negatively affect the fetus or cause premature labor during the first and second trimesters. This is why you might find both \u201cyes\u201d and \u201cno\u201d answers on the internet!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I Receive an Anesthetic?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes \u2013 and if an anesthetic is enough to help you feel reassured, then this may be the route to take. Anesthetics have a good track record for mother and child safety when administered during pregnancy. However, it should be noted that the primary purpose of an anesthetic is to dull pain and numb your mouth. They generally don\u2019t have the same calming effect as stronger sedation methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Importance of Dental Care during Pregnancy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While experts typically recommend waiting until after your child is born to receive any involved dental treatments, if you develop a case of cavities or gum disease, waiting could put your teeth at serious risk.
