A Permanent Solution for Extensive Tooth Loss

Traditional dentures definitely have their advantages, but they also have a tendency to shift around in your mouth when you don’t want them to, and they typically need to be replaced every 7 to 10 years. If you want a more stable, longer-lasting solution for missing teeth, dentures attached to dental implants can be worth considering! If you contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Barajas, he can help determine whether you’re a candidate for implant dentures.

What Are Implant Dentures?

Unlike a traditional denture that sits on your gums, an implant denture is anchored to a number of implant posts. Because the posts are inserted into the jawbone, they can act as artificial tooth roots, providing support, stability, and additional chewing power for your replacement teeth.

You can either get a fixed implant denture or a removable implant denture. We can discuss which option best suits your needs during your initial consultation.

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

A fixed implant denture remains in the mouth 24/7 and cannot be removed without the help of a dental expert. This tooth replacement option usually requires about 4 to 8 implant posts, so it typically calls for a higher level of bone density in the jaw. Taking care of an implant denture is relatively easy since it can be brushed the same way as natural teeth.

Removable Implant Dentures

You can take a removable implant denture out of your mouth whenever you want. Only about 2 to 5 implant posts are normally needed for this type of implant denture; for this reason, it’s often recommended for patients with less jawbone density. Note that a removable implant denture needs to be taken out when it’s time to clean it.

The Implant Denture Process

An initial consultation will be held to make sure that you’re able to get dental implants. Once any necessary preliminary treatments have been completed, surgery will be performed to place the implant posts into the jawbone. The posts will slowly but surely fuse with the bone around them via osseointegration. During the final step of the process, dentures will be created based on impressions of your mouth. The completed dentures will be attached to your implant posts in order to put the finishing touches on your new smile!

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Answering this question is one of the main purposes of your initial consultation. You can most likely get implant dentures if you have experienced extensive tooth loss, have an overall healthy mouth, have plenty of bone density in your jaw, and are able to commit to a lifetime of good oral hygiene habits.

  • You won’t have to worry about deterioration of the jawbone thanks to the stimulation of the implant posts.
  • You can enjoy new teeth that look and feel natural.
  • You can expect your dental implants to last for a very long time – often decades – as long as you take good care of them.
